Copyright Permissions

To obtain permissions to reproduce IWA Publishing content (in whole or in part), please email your request, containing the following details, to publications [at] iwap.co.uk (subject: Copyright%20Permission) (publications)

  • Full citation of the content being reproduced including publication date and journal title, volume and issue number where applicable.
  • Full citation including publisher and approximate release date for the publication in which our material is being reproduced.

As copyright owners, we reserve the right to specify the position and the exact wording of any acknowledgement of an IWA Publishing work. We recommend that any application for copyright permissions is made with plenty of time for alterations to be made to the final manuscript pending our response to the request.

We generally provide copyright permissions for our publications free of charge.

We may in fact not be the copyright holder of the extract or the publication you wish to use, even if the work was originally published by us. This is particularly the case with requests to reproduce material from Water Research which is published in partnership with Elsevier. For all Water Research permissions requests please click here.

When responding to a request regarding materials for which we are not the copyright owners we will endeavour to advise on the correct party to deal with the request. However, we will pursue no further involvement with the request beyond this point.

If you are requesting copyright permissions for an article or book that you have authored yourself in order to publish your work as part of your institution’s repository, please be advised that you will only be granted permissions to reproduce the author’s proof version of the work and not the full published version.

Please note that it is your responsibility to source material for reproduction. We do not distribute original files for figures or diagrams from our publications nor do we distribute author contact details.

If you wish to reproduce material you have authored yourself and are unsure about whether you are allowed to reproduce the content it is always best to check your copyright agreement in the first instance and then to contact us with any further questions.

Foreign Rights

If you are seeking permissions to publish a foreign language version of one of our publications, please note that we only grant permissions to agents and publishers who can guarantee the quality of translation and distribution of the work. We do not grant foreign publication rights to individual translators.

Our foreign translation agreements are valid for a period of 5 years upon receipt of payment of a nominal advance on future royalties. If the work is not published during this period then the agreement will become void. We do not issue refunds on royalty advances.

For further information on publishing foreign-language versions of our books please email your enquiry to mhammond [at] iwap.co.uk (subject: Foreign-language%20book) (editorial).
