CHINA: Beijing company signs desalination technology transfer contract (16/01/14)
A research team from the Beijing Normal University has signed a sea ice desalination technology transfer agreement with Beijing Huahaideyuan Technology Company.
The company’s executive president Yu Jian says it expects to be able to produce at least 1 billion cubic metres of freshwater annually by 2023.
The research team has the basic principles and technology for sea ice desalination mastered, including an ice breaking platform and an ice-gatherer. Sea ice is much less saline than seawater, and the desalinated water can be used in agriculture, industry and for drinking.
