The primary objective of this research was to compare dilute sludge volume index (DSVI) control in equally-sized single- and multi-stage anoxic and anaerobic selectors relative to a control aerobic reactor without a selector, using a synthetic wastewater feed containing both readily biodegradable and slowly biodegradable substrates. A further objective was to compare filamentous microorganism populations and microbial community composition for the different systems by an automated ribosomal intergenic spacer analysis (ARISA) (Fisher and Triplett, 1999) method.
Sixty percent of all wastewater treatment biosolids are recycled, compared to 30% in 1990. Environmental biosolids management systems are now commonly implemented for municipalities. The promotion...
A dual-membrane treatment approach for potable reuse that includes microfiltration (MF), reverse osmosis (RO), and ultraviolet advanced oxidation (UVAOP) has been used at a number of full-scale...
While major improvements in wastewater treatment have reduced nutrient loading to natural receiving waters, current limits of technology preclude further nutrient reductions using established...
Ten years into the 21st Century, municipal and county leaders are facing significant water challenges, including: high water use rates, population growth, aging infrastructure, and the impact of...
In the developed world, the connection between water, hygiene and health is taken for granted. However, for the less fortunate majority, access to potable water is non-existent and remains a daily...
Benchmarking is essential for those developing and implementing water policy. If decision-makers do not know where they have been or where they are, it would seem to be impossible to set...
Hydraulic Design and Management of Wastewater Transport Systems is a manual resulting from the research project CAPWAT (CAPacity loss in wasteWATer pressure pipelines), which researched...
Track 3 of WERF’s Strategic Asset Management Project was developed to “provide guidance on implementing SAM…and develop analytic tools for SAM implementation” - the Decision Support Tools and...
