Council of Australian University Librarians and IWA Publishing announce new Read & Publish agreement

Partnership will boost open access publication of research from Australia and New Zealand.

The Council of Australian University Librarians (CAUL) and IWA Publishing have reached a transformative agreement that will combine reading access to IWA Publishing journals with immediate open access (OA) publishing for CAUL affiliated authors.

The three-year partnership, going into effect in January 1, 2023, allows researchers from participating institutions in Australia and New Zealand to publish OA across IWA Publishing’s extensive range of journals, without an Article Processing Charge.

“We are very pleased to sign this agreement with CAUL,” said Rod Cookson, Managing Director for IWA Publishing. “It will make it even simpler for researchers in Australia and New Zealand to publish in IWA Publishing’s 14 Open Access journals and share their work with everyone around the world.”

“Open access agreements like this are a critical element in the transition to open research,” said Arthur Smith, Associate Director, Content Procurement at CAUL. “We are delighted that eligible authors will have the chance to publish their work open access with IWA Publishing without barriers or restrictions.”

This arrangement is compatible with the Australian Research Council’s OA policy, which states that all ARC funded research must be made Openly Accessible.
