Discover the Editor’s Choice: from each issue of leading journal Water Science & Technology the Core Team of Editors will select one outstanding paper to make Open Access and share across IWA Publishing platforms.

IWA Publishing is pleased to announce the fifth Editor's Choice paper, selected by Marie-Noelle Pons, is now Open Access (CC BY NC-ND):

Fluorescence spectroscopy for assessing trihalomethane precursors removal by MIEX resin

P. Jutaporn, W. Laolertworakul, M. D. Armstrong, O. Coronell

Water Science & Technology, March 2019; 79 (5): 820–832. doi: https://doi.org/10.2166/wst.2019.036

Why was this paper selected as the Editor's Choice?

"A nice application of fluorescence spectroscopy is proposed in this paper to assess the potential formation of trihalomethanes (THMFP) during the disinfection of water samples by chlorine. Furthermore the authors discussed the feasibility of trihalomethanes removal using a magnetic ion exchange resin. The experimental methods are particularly well explained and the work can be easily repeated or expanded to other types of water samples. The authors demonstrate the superiority of fluorescence over simple UV-visible absorbance in building surrogate parameters to monitor the risk induced by the THMFP in the production of safe drinking water. I recommend the reading of this paper both for its scientific aspects and its clarity of presentation."
